do like the that picture. do a medium brown all over and a hot color like blue, purple or hot pink underneath. if your not that brave then settle for a medium brown and a nice blonde shade underneath and maybe do a streak in the front in the bangs. i like the cut you are getting..i think its hott!!

What color should I highlight my hair?
I have straight, shoulder length black hair and very pale skin. I highlighted it red once and it came out more on the purple side. Any suggestions?What color should I highlight my hair?
well i think red or blonde highlights are pretty just like the other picture.It looks cool.I think blonde highlights are so cool and looks original! I suggest blonde highlights.You could go and buy a hair color spray.That's something I could suggest.

I would go for a red color, red is a great fun color that looks good on almost everyone, also get your hair foiled, never ever get a cap highlight, unless you have short hair.
I guess the difference would be the ammount, a highlight is a lot of color, where streaks maybe would only be a few .
I have the same hair as you do! I got Caramel highlights. It really pops, and I'm sure your dad will be fine with the subtle yet beautiful color. And streaks are usually just a couple thin lines, highlights are thicker.
P.S. if your hair isn't naturally straight, have your hair straightened when you get your hair done so you can really see the color. =]

I would go for a red color, red is a great fun color that looks good on almost everyone, also get your hair foiled, never ever get a cap highlight, unless you have short hair.
I guess the difference would be the ammount, a highlight is a lot of color, where streaks maybe would only be a few .
I have the same hair as you do! I got Caramel highlights. It really pops, and I'm sure your dad will be fine with the subtle yet beautiful color. And streaks are usually just a couple thin lines, highlights are thicker.
P.S. if your hair isn't naturally straight, have your hair straightened when you get your hair done so you can really see the color. =]

I have always gotten my hair done at a salon. My natural color is dark blond (perhaps wheat blond). I have gotten highlights for several years and very recently I went to the salon and asked my stylist to color my hair to match my bright highlights. Not sure what colour you're looking to highlight, but if you want to keep the mahogany as your base colour, I wouldn't bother bleaching your hair, it's really really bad for it! Get someone to help and use foil or a highlighting cap to keep each section of hair away from each other while you highlight. A tinting brush may also help.

Hi, Ive been trying to highlight my hair with a light red or light brown color. My hair is currently very dark brown and no matter what i try my highlights NEVER come out looking lighter than my hair. Ive tried colors made specially for dark hair and also tried mixing the color wit a developer designed to turn hair lighter instead of a regular developer. I've colored my hair before to help hide some of the gray that's popping up now. My question is, my hair has red hues to it and I don't want to be a redhead!!! So, if you can bleach that hair really pale and put teal green on it, and get it done by a professional, it will look good, as long as the base color looks good on you. But if you do it yourself, you will look like utter crap!

Most hair stylists will re-do your hair if they color came out wrong, so please call them and let them know! In some cases a senior hairstylist or manager at the salon will do your hair for free if you didn't want to go back to the same stylist.

If for some reason they won't (even after speaking to a manager or owner) you could try to color it over but if its likely the highlights will start to peek back through after a few washes. Your best bet is to get professional color-correction.

Three weeks ago i had my hair highlighted in a saloon. Since my hair is dyed to jet black and i want my highlight to be red, they bleached it first. I thought their highlight color will last long but it failed. Now from red streaks it turned orange and some strands are near to bleach blonde color. Sounds like what happened is that they may not have used a permanent color to cover the highlights. Probably what they were thinking is that with the bleached hair the color will grab and be too red so they used a demi permanent color and it didn't grab. Go to a Sally's beauty supply (a public beauty supply) and find the shade of red you are looking for there should be swatches of hair color available for you to choose from. Hair highlight color?
Please tell me if what I am thinking is a good idea or otherwise what you would suggest. Hi. I have light-medium brown hair and right now I have like darker caramel highlights (they are golden blonde but dark golden blonde, so like honey highlights?) I like them...but they are several months old now...Well I would like to enhance that now just a bit more since they turned out so successful...I was thinking getting fillers since they are cheaper than say doing them a different shade. To enhance it, I would like to add more highlights UNDERNEATH so when I pull it up with a headband, the gold will show through and I could look ';blonde for a day';. Maybe a lighter shade of caramel though, to look even lighter blonde...what do you think? Oh, and I have like a Medium skin tone, but it is tanned and cool only lightening my hair, to balance my look, will do, so please do not suggest lowlights or darkening.Hair highlight color?

So, my suggestion is the combination of low and keep the caramel, add highlights. My hair looks dark blonde now. I get lots of compliments from women and men think it's natural.Hair highlight color?

im a hairstylist i think you should just do 2 diffrent tones of light brown highlights....it makes your eyes stand out and look lighter!

I have dark hair too and found highlights were not the solution. Instead, I went for low lights, in a reddish copper tone. They can check it as it progresses and stop the process when you find the colour you like.
Mind you, if you are wanting to go for shock, why not try an under layer of magenta read, just at the back? Or, if you like, I've seen some black haired ladies go with a few white/ grey streaks. Hi. I have the same type of hair and if you go for a dark highlight, it might not show up. Thus, you would need a strong highlighter - I strongly recommend a tint made with henna- to show up. I also have experimented with double color processing to allow highlights to be seen but it damages hair.

I have dark hair too and found highlights were not the solution. Instead, I went for low lights, in a reddish copper tone. They can check it as it progresses and stop the process when you find the colour you like.

Hi. I have the same type of hair and if you go for a dark highlight, it might not show up. Thus, you would need a strong highlighter - I strongly recommend a tint made with henna- to show up. I also have experimented with double color processing to allow highlights to be seen but it damages hair.

Depends on undertone colors in face. You can walk into any salon and ask what your undertone color is.I personaly look good w/ blue .Go in salon n ask you might be suprised w/ what they say, try it though.I think uuusual colors are hot!
I would say either a hint of blue so as to give the black a raven effect or else a very deep red to give definition to the hair... do not go for very light colours it will make you look old.

Go to Sally's beauty supply and buy l'oreal high performance quick blue powder bleach. It comes in a small blue packet for $3.99 and then get a small size volume 30 cream developer. You'll also need a mixing bowl and brush which they also sell. You'll also need a highlighting cap. It has little holes all over it. The cap should come with a small tool you use to pull the hair through. If not they sell them at sally's too. You put the cap on your head and using the tool you can pull as much hair through as you like. Depending on how many highlights you want. Then mix together the powdered bleach and the 30 developer until you have a creamy mixture. (not too water and not too thick) Just keep adding the developer slowly until you reach the right consistency. Then using the brush you just go over your whole head and coat the hair well that you have pulled through the cap. Leave it on for about 30-35 minutes then leaving the cap on your head wash it out. If you have someone that can help you pull the hair through the cap even better but you can do it yourself. ive colored my hair so often, i would stay away from browns that have red tones, and ill tell you why, i colored my hair black and i have naturally dark brown hair, then i got tired of the black and wanted my brown back, so i removed the black, and i got it really light blonde, i then went and bought a dark brown with red tones, on the box it was dark brown, but my hair turned almost fire engine red, i waited a week then threw a chocolate brown over it, and it turned a real pretty dark brown with a plum tone, i liked it but it was by accident, if i would have used that in the begining like my friend told me to i would have had a nice dark brown......itll be hard to get your actual natural color back but itll be close, remmeber it fades to, i would just color the highlighted areas, because then u will have 2 diff colors not big time, but you wont have to worry about having to keep coloring your natural color over and over just the highlights till they grow out, and the rest is natural.................i went to school for color and ive experimented alot, i dont care wut anyone says, unless you go to a proffesional thats really good, you will not get the exact color, youll get close...but stay away from those red tones............good luck!! clairol is good

But don't do it yourself because you don't have the knowledge of what color does and how to actually do the hilighting. It sounds like you are planning to have it done and that's what you should do. If you don't have a stylist find one that does a lot of color weaving.
edit....using a cap isn't always the best thing because you can't see the placement of where the color is actually going. Have a color weaving done with foils..

try puting a cap on your hair an pull out a tiny section, maybe something like w your index finger, seperate the piece in half you just pulled out an bleach one side of the piece white an the other a golden red, whitch actually is a color, but this will depend on how long your hair is

Is it best to color/highlight you hair when it's dirty???
I always heard that your hair should be dirty because if not the chemicals will TOTALLY strip your hair. I haven't washed mine in several days (I wear it up in uniform all day) and have an appointment to get it highlighted later. I don't want to show up with ';greasy'; hair if not nessesary!!! LOL! Should i wash it first? I don't want to call and ask because I rescheduled my appointment twice and don't want to be a nuisance! THX!Is it best to color/highlight you hair when it's dirty???

On the do-it-yourself boxes it says to have clean hair..but then when I asked the lady who was cutting my hair one day she told me that you should leave it dirty because it picks up color better that way. I've tried it either way and the dye never lasts longer or shorter...plus when you get it done professionally it's going to last longer than DIY kits anyways..

I have been doing my research about the dos and don'ts of being pregnant. I've heard you shouldn't color/highlight your hair, but I haven't read anything about it yet. I just found out I'm pregnant.Is it true it is unsafe to color/highlight your hair while you are pregnant? If so,why?
OK either call the Dr or the number on the box and talk to a consultant. But I do know (3 kids) that your hair may not take to the color as it did before. So be careful when you do it. My advice would be, be in a well ventilated area so not to breath in the bad fumes. Because I have been coloring my hair approximately every 6 weeks since high school, I discussed this same thing with my midwife when I was pregnant with my son.
She told me that people will tell me all the time to quit, because doctors used to say it was unsafe, but now the chemicals used in the dyes have changed. The chemicals they now use aren't as harsh, and they also don't seem into your blood stream as much as was originally thought. So, the short answer to your question is no, it is not true.
HOWEVER, there are some women who will have a bad reaction to the dyes now that they are pregnant, so the best advice would be to go to a professional, who works in a well-ventilated area, and do a strand test before you really get started. Some women find that their hair reacts differently to the dyes, so if you've been using blonde #76 for the last 10 years, it may suddenly come out orange. Also, you may get a rash, or the smell of the dyes may make you extremely nauseaous.
I didn't have any problems at all, and dyed my hair roughly 5 times while I was pregnant. Also, at the shop I used to go to, there was a pregnant hairdresser who got her own hair colored there at the shop, as well as routinely dyed her clients hair. If it was safe for her to be around it on a daily basis, it's likely safe for the rest of us to spend 2 hours around it every other month.

From experience, I got my hair done with my first child during my second tri-mester and with my 2nd child during my third trimester. Both kids are just fine, and the pregnancy and the delivery was normal. Also, my reason for not doing it the first trimester was because i felt the baby was developing a lot during this tri-mester. So really its a personal choice and there is no eveidence that will support the theory either way.
