What is a good highlight color for black hair.?

My hair is jet black. I usually style it straight with full frontal bangs (not too poofy, a bit feathered). Also, I love to party and go clubbing, and people tell me I have a fun, flirty personality. What color highlights/lowlights should I get to reflect my style and look good with black hair? What is a good highlight color for black hair.?
dark purple or dark red or pure whiteWhat is a good highlight color for black hair.?
1 tip, do not put the highlights through your partings ... not good and roots would be unbelievably visable, if your a wacky sort of person go for your way out colours, but don't do the usual perfect placing, a wacky person needs wacky cuts and wacky color placement, if you have a fringe do a slice of the chosen color not at the bottom and not at the top but just sliced through the middle, then from the top of each ear section your hair off in a zig zig parting and then clip that out the way, then do another zig zag parting however thick you want the chosen colour to be, depending on how much you want it to stand out, remember less is more. I'm a hairdresser, but my only downfall is i can explain how to do things but only practically, so im sorry if you didnt understand that but i think it would be really effective, personally with black lots of people go for the obvious colors like pink and red, and blue, be different, orange is really effective may not sound nice, but trust me, the right orange is perfect, for a person who likes to be different x
i recently just had my first highlights and i too had jet black hair. i was nervous and scared of the outcome. i thought it would be orange but my hair stylist, who've i had as for 2 years, convinced me and she talked me through the process which was helpful. i got ';golden honey'; it has a goldish/brownish tone to it. i love the out come. it took me two days to appreciate it because of the change but saw myself in the mirror two days after and i was like looking good. haha

the steps:

1. if you have short hair they put this cap on you with holes in them and pull strands of hair out of it. with long hair they use foils and sounds like you have long hair.

2. they bleach your hair making it blondish. the time depends on how thick and long your hair is.

3. when its blondish enough they put the toner(the stuff that gives your hair the color) then they put you under the hair dryer. time also depends on your hair thickness and length.

4. wash the toner out and if you are getting a cut then this is the best time because the stylist can work around the color.

remember the color is darker when your hair is wet. lighter when dry so dont expect the first color you see is the final out come.

and a bit of advice if you dont like it speak up so they can fix it. and also if something looks orange tell them to put more toner on them. my stylist saw orange in my hair and put the toner again to fix it.

good luck.
It really depends on your skin tone. Do you look better in cool colors like blues and purples or do you look better in warm tones like reds, pinks, and yellows? I have jet black hair and look good in cool colors and had a dark purple streak in my hair that I got a lot of compliments on. I would use that to find a color that suits you. I recommend you stay away from blonde or platinum as it will look more skunky than anything - and that style went out with Christina Aguilara and her ';Dirrrty'; phase... :)
get a bright red it will contrast brill with black hair. it will make u stand out for u amazing style aswell as ur personality. and make sure u get flashes of it so it stands out as i dont think that it should blend so it will will look band on trend ... this is great if u have a street style, but also works if u dont but if u r queit plain then may b it is time for a change go on it will nmake u feel good !!!
Deep Reds, purples and even blue if your not too afraid to pull it off. A friend of mines has such a deep blue that it almost looks black until she steps in the light, Its not like an overall blue black color they are streaks of midnight blue highlights and it looks gorgeous. You have to get a really good colorist to pull that off though.
Basically anything goes with black hair, but make sure you don't have too many colours going on at the same time as it can come off looking quite cheap.

Bleached white streaks look good, as do unnatural colours like pink, blue, purple %26amp; red though they take a lot of upkeep if you want them for a while. Brown mixed with black can look okay.. but it's quite hard to get right %26amp; all the ones I've seen tend to look a bit odd.
Easy, if you want subtle, go with a violet brunette is what it's called, just ask for it in the darkest shade. It will not look brown with your black. It just has a violet/purple hint to it when the light hits it right and is very gorgeous. Ask your stylish, she should know what it means.

If you want it to stand out, blonde and red's are very modern and if done right, can be very stylish.

Check these out...I like the idea of layers and then just doing some ';brighter'; colors on the bottom...

Just stick with a gut feeling of what you like best, Good luck chica*
well depending on if ur hair is naturally black or if u dye it black.... dyed black hair if often hard to lift up into a blond so i wouldnt suggest trying that unless its natural. regardless if it is natural ur hair will want to pull up into a red tone. it may be easier to make ur highlights red... it actually looks really cute. i have my hair like that now. it looks great.
you seem really unique and like u have a good sense of who u r, so u can pretty much pull off anything. I would suggest you get chunky highlights i mean seriously chunky in a wackish color, like a deep dark red or even platinum blondish.
If you want to be daring

Bright red, purple and blonde/white

If you want to keep it safe and have a guaranteed nice outcome.

Deep red, almost burgendy.

Darkk brown, with blonde tint

or a lighter black. (not grey)

i'd go with a deep red.
Purple.

Red.
I THINK AN AWESOME COLOR TO GET WOULD BE TO GET SOME DEEP PLUM HIGHLIGHTS, OR EVEN IF YOU WANT SOMETHING MORE SUBTLE, GO FOR CARAMEL.. IT WORKS IN EVERY COLOR HAIR AND WOULD GIVE YOUR HAIR A BIT MORE VOLUME. [=

HOPE I HELPED! [=

GOODLUCK.
you can get shades of blue, purple and red that don't stand out too much but still brighten up your hair. Or if you're really adventurous you can get bright pink highlights as such: http://lh5.ggpht.com/axiuex2/RiYbedF59cI鈥?/a>
Instead of highlights it would look better with blocks of colour. Like blonde or a bright colour. If you have layers it would be best to colour the bottom layers to get a better effect. You just have to be experimental :)
Dark red-brown?

TAKE a look at these:

dark red and platnium blonde

loook amazing with black hair
I have jet back hair, and i just recently got highlights. I got a caramel color. At first I wasnt sure if I was gonna like it, but now I love it.I would definitly recommend it!
Dare to not follow the High Lite craze, your hair will get more attention if you don't look like all the others dare to start your own trend. Let the room light high lite your beautiful jet black hair.
like a lighter brown or like a dark redish hint!

the lighter brown with the jet black looks really good!

and the dark redish is a little more risky!

but they both would look gorgeous!

i hoped i helped some what!

good luck = ]
I have dark hair and have been thinking about either eggplant/dark purple highlights or crimson/burgundy highlights. Not to bright, but not natural either.
I change my hair color and style every 3 months, with the seasons I guess Ha!, with jet black hair and not really knowing you, I would go with a dark red streak or thick stripe. Get creative.

Take Care.
it's going to be hard to get any color to show on jet black hair. see your hair stylist first to see what colors are actually available..

the good thing is everything goes with black, the really bright colors are in right now so you gan do something bright or something a little more natural.
Red and white are the only highlight colors I can think of that look good with jet black hair unless you are gothic. Then get whatever bright color you feel like.
try a sort of light brown blondey thing like this...

you can do red or you can do platinum ones on your under layers
I'd leave it that gorgeous jet black and accent with your favorite bows, ribbons, flowers...whatever! That way you can change at will in seconds!
definately pink! but if your not too crazy about that color, other colors like blue, purple, red and blonde are cool highlight colors with black. :)
