What color should highlight my hair?

I have shoulder length, dark (nearly black) hair and i'm going to change that this weekend. I have ';virgin hair,'; if that makes any sort of difference... Anyway I'm considering dying my hair brown and getting cherry red highlight (would that show up?) I'm also thinking about light brown and copper/orange lighlights... Would any of these look good? What do you recomend? Please help!What color should highlight my hair?
